Southern Illinois University identifiers are created with your needs in mind, so we have provided you with multiple versions you can use. The identifier should not be manipulated in any way from these files. (This includes altering / changing colors.)
Zip File Details:
Once you unzip the file, you will find two folders – one labeled Digital and one labeled Print.
- Digital Folder: The .png files within the Digital folder can be opened on nearly all computers. These files are saved in RGB color profile.
- Print Folder: The .eps files in the Print folder are vector files. While they were created with Adobe software, they can be opened in many professional design programs that support vector formats, such as Adobe Illustrator, Affinity Designer, CorelDRAW, or other compatible tools. These files are saved in CMYK color profile.
Color Versions:
Within each of these folders you will find multiple different color versions of the identifier. Please read below to choose which one best fits your needs. (The colors should not be altered.)
- 1-Color
- unit_name_black
- This version uses solid black for all elements and is intended for use on light-colored backgrounds or light imagery. It provides strong contrast and maintains clarity when color printing isn’t needed or available.
- unit_name_white
- This version uses solid white for all elements and is intended for dark backgrounds such as SIU Maroon, black, or dark imagery. It should be used when black text does not meet accessibility contrast requirements.
- unit_name_black
- 2-Color
- unit_name_209_white_text / unit_name_CMYK_white_text
- Features an “S” with SIU Maroon fill and a white outline, paired with white text. Intended for use on dark backgrounds such as gray, SIU Maroon, black, or darker areas of images where white text ensures sufficient contrast.
- unit_name_209_white_text / unit_name_CMYK_white_text
- 3-Color
- unit_name_209_black_text / unit_name_CMYK_black_text
- Features an “S” with SIU Maroon fill and a white outline, paired with black text. This full-color version is intended for use on light backgrounds or lighter areas of images where black text remains clearly visible. It should not be used on dark backgrounds or dark imagery, where white text would be more appropriate.
- unit_name_209_black_text / unit_name_CMYK_black_text
*Please note that the Print Files-EPS folder also contains CMYK and 209 versions of the black type and white type identifiers.
Tips
- 209 is our Pantone maroon color. This file type should be used with outside vendors to get the correct maroon.
- The CMYK version is what should be used when sending something to SIU's Printing and Duplicating for print.
- Identifiers are not appropriate for email signatures. To have an official SIU-branded email signature, visit OIT's signature generator page.
- No more than one identifier should appear on a single piece (apparel, flyer, etc.). If multiple identifiers are needed, use the SIU logo and list the colleges or offices in plain text.
